Competition for the best master’s thesis on personalised medicine

This initiative aims to encourage medical and health sciences postgraduate students to take an interest in personalised medicine.

The Future Biomedicine Foundation (hereafter the Foundation) defines personalised medicine as a model of personalised treatment, which, based on the knowledge of the genotype and phenotype of the patient and the molecular profile of the disease (mutations, alterations in biomolecules, etc.), is implemented by selecting the appropriate drugs and doses to overcome the disease.

Procedure for selecting entries

Candidates for the Best Personalised Medicine Thesis nomination are selected by the Master’s Thesis Committees and notified to the candidates. To be eligible for the Award, Master’s students must have successfully defended their Master’s thesis on personalised medicine and have received a grade of “excellent” and a recommendation for the Award from the Thesis Committee. If the candidate agrees, the head of the Master’s Thesis Committee, or another member of the research institution’s administration, forwards the thesis to the Foundation for further evaluation.

Evaluation of works

Submissions from research institutions are additionally evaluated by the Foundation’s panel of experts. The jury will evaluate the entries according to the following criteria:

  • The topic of the paper is in line with the Foundation’s definition of personalised medicine;
  • The importance and value of research for the science of personalised medicine;
  • Originality;
  • Appropriate literature review
  • The research methodology is well chosen;
  • Quality of the results and validity of the conclusions;
  • Prospects for practical application of the results; recommendations for further research;
  • Dissemination of results at scientific conferences and in scientific publications;
  • Presentation, clarity, correctness.

Submission procedure

The competition is open to theses defended in the academic year 2022/2023.

The two best entries will be selected for a prize of €1000 each.

Submit entries until 2023 23 June. inclusive.
